About ANF

Ababu Namwamba Foundation (ANF)

Ababu Namwamba Foundation (ANF) is a private charity founded in 2003 under the umbrella of Ababu Namwamba Attorneys-at-Law, to support community development through three key pillars: Education, Economic Empowerment and Talent Development.

The Foundation's flagship initiative is the Ababu Scholars program through which academically endowed but economically challenged girls and boys are awarded scholarships to pursue their education dreams at various levels. Since inception in 2003, the foundation has supported the education of hundreds of young people across the country. Dozens of Ababu Scholars have graduated from different levels of the academic ladder and are serving their communities and the country in various capacities.

Besides the scholarship, ANF also supports supply of books and other learning materials and infrastructure development in schools and institutions. Bulwani Primary School was the first beneficiary of this program in 2004. Port Victoria Mixed and Sifugwe Primary Schools are the latest beneficiaries, while Mubwayo Primary School is on the verge of securing support from Slovak Aid through ANF facilitation. ANF has strong ties with the Embassy of Slovakia, especially after a visit to Slovakia in 2013 by the founder.

Another key aspect of the education pillar is Mentorship Program. The Foundation organizes visits to various educational institutions for motivational talks and role modelling aimed at inspiring students to focus on their goals.

The Foundation also hosts and co-sponsors educational tours for schools, supporting exposure of learners in selected institutions.

ANF's most outstanding economic effort to date remains the successful revival of the Bunyala Irrigation Scheme, Magombe in 2004. This was personally championed and led by ANF founder, Hon Ababu Namwamba, EGH.

The Foundation also actively works with youth and women groups in diverse income generating initiatives. MESO Youth Group in Bulemia, Port Victoria Residents Association, Kipkelion Boda-boda Self-help Group and Kapomboi Ward Education Fund are all recent beneficiaries of ANF support.

ANF supports various talent development activities, including the annual Vijana Mbele football tournament and the Bunyala Boat Racing Festival in Budalang'i Constituency. Busia United Football Club, a nationwide league team from Busia County has also benefited from ANF. In 2012 the Foundation hosted a team from the National Talent Academy, offering talented youths from Budalang’i Constituency induction in theoretical and practical aspects of talent management.

Funding for ANF comes from the personal resources of Hon. Ababu Namwamba, EGH, MP and well-wishers.
